Welcome back Pre-3 Families!
Outdoor Time
We would like to inform you of a few changes to our schedule. Our morning outdoor time has changed. We will be going outside on the main playground from 8:15-9:15. If you can please drop your child off on the playground in the morning at drop off that would be great. We will have the sign in sheet located on the picnic table and you can also drop off your child’s belongings at this time. We understand that this is a change in your and our schedule, but we believe this is a great transition into their school day. This new schedule will also provide us two hours of uninterrupted learning opportunities in our classroom. As far as the end of the day schedule parents will continue to pick up their child at Gable playground if the weather permits!
Weather Updates
In regards to the weather: If the wind-chill (feels like) 15 degrees we will have a limited amount of time outside (20 minutes). If it is 10 degrees or less we will not be going outside. Outside on the playground the children have been exploring the ice and snow, making snow angels, sledding down the large hill and exploring our new playground!
Writing Center
We are excited for our writing center. The children are showing more interest in writing and letter sound recognition. We also have a word wall on our closet doors that will help the children with familiar words and sight words. We are hopeful that this will inspire them to increase their vocabulary and encourage writing skills! During these first few weeks we plan on enriching this area by writing letters to members at our center. We will document this process and share it with you along the way!
Small Groups
We are implementing small group activities in our daily schedule. The first week of the semester we focused on NUMBERS! The children were challenged to count to large quantities using gems, writing out the numbers and 1:1 correspondence. We also played some games, such a dominos where the children practiced turn taking, sharing, and learning about good sportsmanship when winning or losing a game. These small group activities allow for quality one on one time with a peer and/or teacher.
KWL Chart
In the weeks to come we plan on introducing a KWL (what you know, what you want to know and what you have learned) chart to the children. This chart is great for learning about different and new topics. The children have all shown an interest in animals, our science area has arctic animals so we thought this would be a great start! We look forward to learning some new things! We will showcase this process in the hallway as well as on Teaching Strategies.
Thank you so much for all your flexibility and understanding in these uncertain times. Our goal is to keep you all safe & healthy!
