Winter Exploration
The month of February has been very snowy and cold. The few times we have been able to get outside the children have had a great time sledding, looking for animal tracks and nature items, climbing on the snow hills and making snow angels. We are looking forward to warmer weather, so we can get outside each day. The children have a lot of energy and we have been busy planning large motor activities to help. For example: obstacle coarse, stationary bike, balloons, target throwing, bean bag activities, and lots of dance parties.
Let’s Go to the Arctic
The children have continued to explore the arctic through building habitats for their animals, exploring ice and arctic animals, and watching short informational videos about the arctic. During the next few weeks we will observe what the children are interested in and decide and vote what we would like to learn about next! We will continue doing the KWL charts and graphing this information for you to view.
Number Fun!
During our small group activities during free choice, we have been engaged in a lot of one to one correspondence activities. This is when the child is pointing to the object while counting to the correct number. We have been working on sequence of numbers, number recognition and understanding greater than and less than concepts.
Writing, Writing & more Writing!
We continue to encourage the children’s writing skills by providing them with a variety of writing opportunities. The children have been showing great progress in writing their first name. We will be encouraging them to write their last name during the next few weeks. At group time we have been learning the difference between upper and lower case letters through a variety of games and activities. We have been writing letters to individuals throughout the center. (Beth-from the kitchen, Gio-from pre-4 and Kendra-teacher). We will continue with our letter writing adventure.
