News from the Toddler-2 Room
Welcome Elizabeth, our new classmate to Toddler-2 Family! We are so excited that she has joined our Toddler 2 family!
We are marching right through the semester. In February we were limited to the time spent outside and some days we could not go out at all because it was to cold. We are anxiously awaiting to welcoming in the month of March for spring to spend more time outside.
February activities included painting, painting and more painting! The children painted with cars, on hearts, with bags and foil. Sensory activities included Snow, Water, Playdough and Foam. New material in the classroom has captured the children’s interests. The car garage with ramps and matchbox cars, The Doll House complete with people, cars and swings and the Duplo Table and farm set. This classroom loves their animals completely! New books

were introduced a little differently to the children and they loved it. A basket of all new books was brought into the room to put in our library and the children gathered around to watch, so instead of just adding them to the shelf each book was read to them as small group activity. The children loved it! This attention to the books certainly ignited a love for our library again!
Small group and Group-time takes place throughout the day and helps with our transitions. The children can attend to these activities for longer periods of time now. These group time activities include color sorting with colored frogs and matching bowls, Rhythm Sticks singing Ram Sam Sam, Color Shout in-which we are finally hearing some of the children shout. One day a child held up the colored bowls and started shouting out the colors!
The children are really developing relationships with classmates, big hellos and goodbyes to friends, children run to the door when someone is coming in and even helped each other transition into the classroom. The social skills are coming right along.
March will bring us many changes in the weather and with the children. Our focus for March will be self-help skills and independent thinking so we will be encouraging the children to take off and put on shoes. They will be hanging up outside clothing in their cubbies, washing hands independently as well as pushing in chairs and of course putting away material. They will also be helping in the classroom with appropriate tasks like helping to set up activities, and cleaning table with soap and water. The children are also becoming interested in group games; like spotlight dancing to a song called In The Middle and a Bug in the Rug guessing game.
