Story Telling

This month the children were given multiple opportunities to write and tell stories. They used props and cards with different objects and themes to encouarge them to make up their own stories. This activity showcased the childrens imagination and how they used the different objects to spark new ideas. Their personalities and experiences shown through their stories when talking about chracters and places depicted in their stories.

Fine Motor

The children participated in many fine motor activities. Jigsaw puzzles and floor puzzles, placing beads on sticks, cutting activities using scissors, threading yarn through lacing cards, drawing and writing using various utensils. Strengthening their fine motor skills allow for growth  to complete everyday tasks including tying shoe laces, grasping a pencil, typing on a keyboard and using a variety of utensils.

Media Table

We added the sensory table back into the classroom. We have a list of the children’s names posted and each child has a turn each day. This allows us to clean everything thoroughly before the next child’s scheduled day. This new system is working and the children have really enjoyed their time engaged at the table.

Tinkering

The children were able to use their fine motor and eye hand coordination skills while tinkering with an old CD player and alam clock. They were able to use a screwdriver and hands to take apart and explore the inside of each item. Once inside they were amazed to see bolts, screws, and colored wires.

Block Area

The  block area continues to be a popular area in our classroom. Recently the children have been making grocery stores, bug habitats out of the large hollow blocks, obstacle courses, ramps for their vehicles and zoos for all of their animals. This area helps the children learn to play cooperativley with their peers, turn taking, gross motor and fine motor skills.
