Week of the Young Child

This month we celebrated the 50th  anniversary of the Week of the Young Child. So many activities took place and we had so much fun. On music Monday the children made musical instraments with plastic eggs and paper plates and had a parade around the classroom. We also had a dance party with different songs requested from each child.Tasty Tuesday we made trail mix with some yummy snacks and we even tried seweed. Work together Wednesday we made a structure as a class at group time, had hobby horse races and won 1st place and wore our tie-dye T-shirts! Artsy Thurday consisted of painting mini canvases and sticker art. Thank you for supporting our classroom during this special week.

Firefighters in Pre-3

We added the fire station to the dramatic play area. The children put on the fire coats, boots, and fire helmets and rode the fire truck around to put out the fires throughout the classroom. The children worked together to put out the fires using the hoses and spray bottles. They communicated with the walkie talkies when traveling to the fires and  learned how to used the equipment appropriately. Firefighter books were provided and images of real life fire fighters for a realistic experience.

Games Galore

This month we added a game shelf to the classroom. The children have enjoyed learning new games and engaging with peers and teachers. They continue to work on cooperation skills, turn taking, and good sportmanship. Some of the games we explored were Sequence, Headbandz, UNO, Eye Spay Busy Town, and Quick Cups. The games provided the children new vocabulary, learning the rules of a game and following directions.

Letter Exploration

Children continue to have a love for letters and the alphabet! we have explored not only our names but words, books, writing letters and words and letter recognition. Some children have began to read simple sight words by sounding out the letters. We have exposed the children to various activiites that involve writing words and their first name. The children were challenged to use craft sticks to spell their name. Other activities to enhance letter recognition included finger painting their names, being exposed to letters in games, puzzles, and books.

We would like to say thank you for sharing your child with us this past year. We know it hasn’t been easy or naormal for anyone, but we believe we have provided the children with a wonderful learning experience. We wish you all the best of luck next year in kindergarten, we know they are going to do great things.
