Hello families!
We are excited to announce that we have successfully finished our first week of school in Preschool 2. Our friends are beginning to learn names, build friendships, and follow a new routine.

Sign-In
The children have been signing in when coming to school each day. Each child has a journal and they are encouraged to sign their name or draw a picture. Alphabet cards and name cards are used as a reference when referring to specific letters in their names. This task will show progression throughout the semester with letter recognition, fine motor skills and writing skills.
Yay, You went POTTY!
Some Pre 2 children are in the process of potty training, we have made sticker charts to encourage them to use the toilet. Since doing this we have observed peers and teachers excited for their classmates to use the potty. This visual helps the children see their accomplishments over a period of time.
Music Area
The children showed great interest in the music area of the classroom. We have a record player and the children are able to independently play records by moving the needle onto the record, they also enjoy turning the volume up and down. We also have a variety of instruments from different countries. The children enjoy exploring each unique instrument, learning how to play it appropriately, and creating music with their peers.
Morning Meeting
After our first clean up time, we transition to morning meeting or group time. Everyday we sing the song, “Do you know this friend of mine?” This helps the children identify their peers by face and name. We ask if that child is at home or school. We review the group time rules which include looking with your eyes, listening with ears, gentle hands and feet, sit on your bottom, quiet voice. We review the daily schedule with visuals and ask the children what comes next. This is a great way to assess their recall and recognition. We have just introduced problem solving cards, these are visuals that help the children come up with solutions to social problems that may arise in the classroom.
SCIENCE
We have explored the science area, which includes sorting rocks by size, color and texture. The children have used the science tools, such as the magnifying glass to observe the different types of specimen insects located in this center. We counted how many legs the beetles and spiders have and sang “the itsy bitsy spider.” Lastly, we have investigated the magnets and how they stick to the magnetic wand and how many balls will stick at a time. These science tools spark an overall interest in asking logical questions, such as, who, why, where, and how.
Love,
Bri and Hill
