Hello 2’s/3’s Families,
We hope your semester is going well. Here are some of the areas of development that we have been working on so far.
Social Emotional
We have started singing welcoming songs at our morning group time so the children can get to know each other and their peers’ names. We have been reading stories to help with learning social-emotional skills. Diane and I will plan on doing role playing scenarios to help the children understand what happens during a given situation. For example, showing what will happen when another child takes a toy from a peer. We have been starting to practice yoga and taking deep breaths as we are doing the moves. This helps the children to self-soothe when they are upset about something. There are some pinwheels and sensory bags provided in our quiet area that encouraging the children to self-soothe when upset as well.
Here’s an example of a morning greeting song:
(to the tune of “Happy Birthday”)
Good morning to you,
Good morning to you,
Good morning to (your child’s name)
Good morning to you!
Sensory and Science
The children have shown a great interested in the sensory and science activities we have planned for them. Some of these activities included exploding colors, baking soda and vinegar, silly putty, Mr. Bubbles foam, finger painting in a bag and painting with a variety of materials. We also got to open up a pumpkin and see what was inside. Before we opened it and saw the insides and the seeds, we made predictions about what was in there and a lot of us guessed that there were animals like tigers and lions inside. We also tasted a few types of apples and decided which ones we liked the best!
Fine Motor
We have had several additions to our classroom to build upon these skills! For example, puzzles have been a success as the children are eager to find where the pieces go and line them up accordingly. We even added a big floor puzzle to challenge the children a little further. We talk about colors and shapes to help guide them to find the right spot! We also used our fine motor and eye-hand coordination skills to hit golf tees into a large pumpkin. This was challenging as they had to really concentrate.
Reminders
- Please make sure to bring extra masks for your child. With the cooler weather coming, we are seeing more runny noses which may cause a change in masks.
- Please also make sure you and your child are wearing masks upon entering the building to keep everyone safe.
- Please provide your child with warmer clothes (ex. Long sleeved shirts and long pants). We will send home the summer clothes once we get new items.
- Please DO NOT bring food from home into the center as there are several allergies noted.
- Please continue to bring in plastic grocery bags.
- If you would like to provide a backpack or tote for your child to send items to and from school, that would be greatly appreciated!
Special note: THANK YOU to all the families that donated books to our classroom from the book fair! We are super excited to read these stories together!
