October News 2’s/3’s 2

Introduction

Hello 2’s/3’s 2 Families!

We cannot believe how fast the fall semester is going! We have been enjoying our time getting to know you and your child! We have been continuing to work on kindness and manners in the classroom. For example, at meal time we encourage the children to say please and thank you. We have also seen a lot of the children playing together more, as we model how to enter groups successfully and how to use our words accordingly. Now that the weather is getting colder, we will work to help the children to build their self-help skills by teaching them “the flip trick” with their jackets.

Parent Conferences are coming up next month. Kat will do hers on November 10, 2021 and Diane will do hers on November 11, 2021. Please see the sign up sheet on top of the cubbies if you have yet to sign up for a time. We appreciate you taking the time to talk with us, we are excited to share your child’s strengths and goals with you. Please remember to fill out the parent pre-conference form as it helps us to develop the direction of the conference.

Dramatic Play

Our children have been very interested in going to the dentist and the book Just Going to the Dentist by Mercer Meyer. We have created a dental office dramatic play center based on this interest. Some of the items we put in the center include a mouth model that the children can practice brushing the teeth. We have done toothbrush painting and practiced brushing the baby doll’s teeth. We are planning an elephant toothpaste science activity for the children to observe a chemical reaction. We have watched videos on dental health and why it is so important. Other books have been included in the center to show how different teeth can look, for example, we have included a book on animal teeth.

Sensory Activities

The children have been very interested in sensory play. We have been doing a variety of activities including Mr. Bubbles foam, water play in individual bins-with this we practiced scooping, pouring and measuring, Floam, and experimenting with different art materials. We apologize if your child comes home a little messy, just know this is part of the learning process and they are having fun!

Reminders

  • Please DO NOT bring toys or food from home into the center. There are allergies in the building. Also, if toys are brought from home they could get lost or break.
  • Please sign in and out every day on our clipboard!
  • Please make sure your child’s clothing items are labeled!! This will ensure that we are sending the correct items home.
  • Please provide proper clothing as the weather is changing and getting cooler. This includes long sleeved shirts, sweaters, hoodies, long pants, etc.
