2’3’s 1 January Newsletter

Wow! What a crazy semester! Due to Covid, we have had such low numbers to start the semester. We have had a lot more one on one time with the children that have been here so that is a plus!

We would like to welcome our new friend Emily and her family into our program! So happy to have you with us!

Veronica and I are starting out the semester with letter and shape recognition. The first step is to have children match! We are matching letter A, E, Z and J. We have done several activities with shapes. During free play we have stringing shapes, magna tiles, and collage materials. For small groups we made shape snowmen and coffee filter dip art.
Books have been a wonderful way to incorporate both letters and shapes into the curriculum. Our favorites are Chicka, Chicka, Boom Boom and Mouse Shapes.

The children love all kinds of music and are adding instruments on their own when we do large group music. It’s another fun way to add to our curriculum and get exercise at the same time!

We have started a “word wall” outside our classroom. Each time a new vocabulary word comes across in conversations or books, we will add it to our wall- be sure to ask your child about the words they are learning!

We plan on adding more letters and math concepts in February. We have a great group of learners and Veronica and I are excited about the upcoming semester! Thank you for letting us be part of your child’s development!
