What Have We Been Up To?

Outside Fun:

With the crazy weather we have been getting, the kids have been exploring the snow, mud, and water! There were a couple times we were able to go out and use out sleds down our hill. When the kids started noticing the snow melt, we took a walk to the pond near the NIU library. They were shocked when they realized that one side of the pond was completely melted and they could see the rocks at the bottom. However, when we went to the other side of that same pond, it was still completely covered in ice and now. We talked about how the warm weather was slowly melting the snow around us.

Interns Lead Teaching:

Our interns, Nick, Elly, and Anahi have officially started their lead teaching weeks! In February, they started off by doing some practice activities with the kids. They are looking at the needs of the classroom and the children and implementing developmentally appropriateĀ  activities for them. During their first week of lead teaching our interns focused on topics such as, shapes, fine motor skills, and careers. During the next couple of weeks the interns will be doing full weeks of lead teaching. What does this mean for our room? This means that the interns will be planning out the activities for the week as well as learning how to communicate with other coworkers and families.

Prewriting Skills:

Towards the end of February, our class did a prewriting activity where they were given a dice with different lines that they had to copy. They were given a piece of paper with four stickers on each side. They had to take the animals home by making the line that the dice fell on. The kids then wanted to make their own so they grabbed stickers and placed them on each side so that they animals could find their way home.

Reminders:

  • Please make sure to bring extra socks. With the change in weather there are a lot of puddles that the kids are splashing in.
  • During drop off and pick up, please stay at the door and wait for your child. This is part of the CDFC’s guidelines and policies.
