What Have We Been Up To?
Gross Motor:
We have had our ups and downs when it comes to the weather. Luckily we have been able to provide our kids with a variety of movement activities in the room for those rainy days. One of the things the kids like, is an activity called Crash Mat. This is when a teacher brings in a big mad and holds it up using their body. The kids are then called one by one, they run towards the mat and hit it with all their force. Another game that was introduced to them this month were our action dice. One dice has different animal movements, while the other dice has time frames.
Week of The Young Child:
Our Week of The Young Child was filled with lots of activities! The children have been interested in cooking activities in our room, so for Tasty Tuesday, we made waffle pizzas and smoothies. The waffle pizzas were something new for the kids. They were in charge of assembling the pizza and they were cooked by the teachers for afternoon snack. At first the kids were confused because it did not look like the typical pizza they eat. However, once they took their first bite they were surprised that it still tasted like a pizza!
Their favorite activity of the week was our Color Run. This was the first time anyone from our room had participated in a color run so they didn’t know what to expect. It became more of a color scramble then a color run but the kids still had a blast. At the end they had the opportunity to throw some powder on the teachers! Once the run was over, the children asked when we were going to have another one!
Firefighter Visit:
To end the month, our intern Nick, called the DeKalb Fire Department and asked if they could come and talk to the kids about what they do. The firefighters came and talked to the children about what they do on a day to day basis. They then showed them what they need to put on when they have to go put out a fire or go into a house that is on fire. The firefighters then allowed the children to go inside their truck and take a picture. We are so thankful that they took the time to come out and talk to us!
