Pre-3 Newsletter October

Introduction

It’s hard to believe that the month of October is over, and November is already here. We have really been enjoying our time together as our year has progressed. We are working on a lot of skills in our classroom: the biggest skill we are working on is our social emotional skills and calming our bodies. We are learning more about each other as we work on our problem-solving skills.

Social Emotional Skills/Calming Techniques

We have been working very hard on our social emotional skills! Our kids are working to pause and take a breath, use their words with each other and us, and how to calm their bodies while they are upset. We have also been working on turn taking, asking for a turn and waiting until a classmate is finishing their turn and more. We are learning that waiting is hard to do even though it is something we have to do. We also have been giving the children two choices to choose from. This helps them gain independence and control. We continue to use first/then statements and visuals to help the children during transitions.

Conference Schedule

Conferences for Diane are on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 from 8:00-4:00 and conferences for Kat are on Tuesday November 15, 2022 from 8:00-4:00. Please see the sign-up sheets in the classroom to sign up for a time if you haven’t done so already. Also, we will send home a small questionnaire for you to fill out to return to us to help us with the direction of the conference. Please make sure to fill these out and return to these as soon as possible.

Family Night

Kat and I would like to thank all the families that came to participate in our family night. We hope you found the morning and night routines helpful. We look forward to sharing more materials with you throughout the semester.

Cooking Activities

This month we contributed to two cooking activities. We made applesauce and pumpkin bread! We cut up at least six apples and put them in a crockpot and mixed it with cinnamon, lemon juice, and water. We let it cook for 3-4 hours and it broke down and we were able to eat it with afternoon snack. The kids who tried it seem to like it! We also made a simple recipe for pumpkin bread and baked it. We also enjoyed it with afternoon snack and all the kids wanted to try it and they really enjoyed it. We look forward to doing more cooking activities!
