Hi Pre-2 Families!
We are wrapping up another month in PFA-E. This month we welcomed Hillary back into the classroom from her maternity leave! Sam has left Pre-2 but hasn’t gone far, as some of you and your children have noticed, she’s transitioned into Pre-1’s classroom.
We also transitioned from our tree study into our pet study. This month we will be learning all about pets. We will be discussing different pets’ people may have, what pets need (bedding, food, toys, water), and who takes care of the pets when they are sick. As a special surprise, Sara Beach brought in her pet rabbit, Clover. They got the opportunity to feed and hold him. If you have any pets at home, please feel free to email a picture to Bri or Hillary so we can share it with the class.
Earlier in the semester, we introduced our center wide expectations. The expectations are we take care of ourselves, we take care of others, and we take care of our things. These expectations are helpful in teaching social-emotional skills. We will encourage the children to be mindful of these expectations and provide praise when we catch them taking care of themselves, others, and things.
To build friendships, we will encourage the children to use our posted visuals to guide decision making in a positive way. Some of the friendship skills include, taking turns, providing comfort, and including others. We will motivate the children to use these visuals when they are having a difficult time solving social problems. We hope you hear some of this vocabulary used at home.
As a reminder, we will be going outside when it feels like 15 degree or above. Please make sure your child has proper winter wear. If you need any assistance in getting winter wear, please contact De or Amy and they will be able to help you. It would also be a good idea to send your child with a winter outfit for their extra clothes bin incase they need to be changed while they are at school.
We will be having parent teacher conferences Monday the 5th and Tuesday the 6th. If you have not signed up for conferences, please do so and make sure you are signing up for the Pre-2 time slots. These conferences are important because they give us an opportunity to communicate about your child’s social and cognitive development since we don’t always have the opportunity during pick up and drop off times. These conferences help us update you on how your child is doing in the classroom as well as give you the opportunity to let us know how things are going at home and to set future goals for the next semester.
