December in Toddler 2

Hi Families! Happy December!

The Fall semester finally ended! We made a few changes in the classroom the past few weeks.

Classroom Gross Motor Play

We switched out a few toys in our gross motor area. We brought in a taller basketball hoop for the children. This has allowed the children the opportunity to continue working on their handling and hand eye coordination skills. It has also given them the outlet they need when they are throwing other toys in the classroom inappropriately. We also added another rainbow mat. This one is raised slightly higher than our previous one to allow for balancing practice.

Dramatic Play- Construction Site

We finally changed our grocery store to a construction site and a carpentry workshop to introduce new concepts to the children. With the new toys, we were able to talk to them about how different tools work such as the hammer, screw driver, wrench and saw. Additionally, we also discussed construction workers, different construction trucks, and safety equipment such as hard hats and safety goggles.

Teacher led activities

For group time, we have been focusing on having the children identify familiar animals and objects. We have accomplished this by using their favorite books or the mystery box. With their favorite books, we pause while reading to allow them time to identify what is on the page. With the mystery box, we ask them what they found in the box. During both activities, we make sure to ask follow up questions if needed to assist them. We reinforce correct answers and correct them if they answer incorrectly to allow them to make those adjustments.

Have a good winter break!!!
