Pre-3 October Newsletter

Introduction

It’s hard to believe that we are already moving into the month of November. The semester is going by so fast. We would like to welcome Walie and his family to our classroom. He started the middle of October and is getting used to our routine and making new friends. The children have been very busy throughout the classroom learning to take turns, joining in play with their peers, usingĀ  their words to tell peers and teachers what they need, patience, following directions, first/then statements and calming down strategies when we are upset. We continue to work on our classroom and center wide expectations.

Pumpkin Activities

This month the children were able to explore a variety of different sized pumpkins. We would like to thank Sherie for bringing the pumpkins in from her garden. The children were able to estimate the size of the pumpkins by using plastic colorful links, we made predictions on what would be inside the pumpkin when we cut into the top of the pumpkin. The children were also able to paint the pumpkins and decorate them using glue and colorful tissue paper. The children also had fun going on a pumpkin scavenger hunt around the center. This activity helped the children work on positional words and two step directions.

Dramatic Play

This month we changed our dramatic play area into a camping area. The children have been spending a great deal in this area pretending to role play being on a camping adventure with their peers. Some of the children talked about their experiences from their camping trips and the things that they did with their family. To help our camping area be as realistic as possible we added a small wooden rocking boat, wood logs for a camp fire, small tent, flash lights, small grills, plastic food and plastic fishing polls. The children have been role playing and pretending that they are fishing and cooking the fish on the grill. This area is great for the children to use their imaginations and creativity through role playing. Next we will be changing it into a restaurant.

Parent Teacher Conferences

We will be conducting parent/teacher conferences during the second week in November. This is a great time to sit down and talk about your child’s strengths and things they are working on. Melissa and I look forward to talking with all of our families. Please make sure you sign up for a time if you have not. Our sign up sheets are located on top of the cubbies inside our classroom.

Diane’s conferences are on Tuesday November 7th from 7:30-4:00

Melissa’s conferences are on Wednesday November 8th from 7:30-4:00

Reminders:

  1. Save the date: Wednesday November 8th, We will be having a family night from 5:30-7:00. The center will be sending out information soon. We hope you can make it!
  2. With the weather getting cooler please make sure your child has the appropriate clothing to go outside. For example winter Boots, coats, hats, and gloves (preferably water proof gloves). It also helps the teachers if you label all of your children’s clothing. We have 15 children and it’s hard to keep track of everyone’s items.
  3. Please make sure you are picking up your child by 5:30. If you would like to talk with Melissa or I at the end of the day, please come at least 10 to 15 minutes before the center closes at 5:30. We appreciate you considering our time.
