Another month has flown by and only eight weeks until the holiday season approaches. As we move into the winter months, we ask that families continue to bring warmer clothing for their child’s clothing bins, a winter coat, gloves, warm socks and play shoes, and a hat. We do continue to go outside even after a snowfall and if the windchill is above 15 degrees. Please see the email Bri sent out on 10/31 pertaining to the need for any winter essentials.
During the month of October, we kicked off the ball study. We began the study discussing various types of balls. For small group, we played “mystery balls.” Every child was given a paper bag and asked to use just their hands to feel and describe the ball. Some children described their balls as hard, soft, rough, smooth, scratchy, and squishy. We even had a child describe their green prickly ball as looking like broccoli. We showed and shared each child’s ball and assessed if each child could recall their ball. We used our balls during free choice with the ramps. Some children used their creativity when creating ramps, connecting ramps together and building bridges over the ramps.
While outside, we played with our center balls daily. We practiced tossing, throwing, kicking, and catching. We discussed the types of balls we play with outside. We have soccer, football, rubber, wiffle, and golf balls to explore. As we continue our ball study, we will learn about what the inside of a ball looks like using hollow and solid balls.
This month we are going to be intentional in encouraging the children to problem solve, follow directions, follow the classroom routine, and be kind to friends and teachers, by introducing our classroom piggy bank. Our piggy bank is an incentive tool to encourage the children to work hard as a team to earn coins. Once our piggy bank is full, we will celebrate with a pajama and donut party! We are looking forward to making deposits and hope your child will be encouraged to make positive choices.
Conferences will be held the first week of December, Monday the 4th and Tuesday the 5th. Make sure to sign up as soon as times are posted.
Thanks,
Hillary and Bri
