Pre- 3 Newsletter

It’s hard to believe we are almost through November and moving into December. This semester has gone by so quick. We wanted to remind families that fall semester ends on December 15th. If you are in need of care during interim you will need to fill out paper work and talk with Janene.

Dramatic Play

The children continue to show a lot of interest in our new dramatic play area that we set up as a veterinary office. We are learning that a vet is a special doctor that takes care of animals. The children are role playing being a pet owner and a veterinarian. We will continue encourage and model appropriate play, joining in on play, using our words and turn taking.

Science Activities

This past month we have been engaged in a variety of science activities. For example: Skittles color experiment, exploding colors, making playdough, silly putty, and dancing raisins. During these activities we are making predictions on what we think is going to happen and also making conclusions after we have done the experiment. This is also a great time for us to talk about when things don’t turn out the way we planned them to work.

Volunteering at The Food Pantry

Towards the end of the month, our class was able to go to the field house to volunteer at the huskie pantry. Our center did a fundraiser to collect birthday baking items. We were able to collect enough  items to make 20 baking kits for the NIU food pantry. It was a great experience for the children to help stock the shelves with caned food, granola bars, and boxes. The children were following directions, taking turns and working together as a team. We would like to thank De our family coordinator for setting this opportunity up for us. It is a great way to for us to teach the children about giving back to our community and thinking about others.
