Dear Parents and Families,
Another month has flown by, and we are now cruising into the month of March! We are grateful to have had such wonderful weather to allow us to play outside and go on walks to look for street signs that pertain to our study.
Just this week, we wrapped up the sign study. The children have enjoyed learning, recalling, and recognizing signs in their environment and the use of sign visuals reviewed at group time. Some signs discussed include do not enter, stop, caution, bathroom, school crossing, no smoking, and no littering. Not only have we reviewed street signs and informational signs daily, but we have also discussed signs related to google maps, and sign language. We briefly introduced colors in sign language. Ask your child if they can remember how to sign the primary colors in sign language.
Most importantly, we have encouraged the children to think about the importance of signs and why we need signs to communicate information. We have explained to the children that signs keep us safe because they alert us if there is danger nearby. Also, we discussed that signs tell us information simply by their color. Red, for example, means danger or stop. Yellow, means slow or caution and green, means go.
Starting next week, we will begin the tubes and tunnel study. We hope this study encourages the children to think about movement through tunnels, how we get from one place to another, where we find tubes and tunnels, and how people and animals use tunnels to travel.
Just a few reminders, Spring Break begins March 11th and goes through the 15th. We have an upcoming vision and hearing screening for preschool children on March 7th and 8th. Please continue to read emails from administration pertaining to any school early dismissals or upcoming reminders.
Thanks!
Hillary and Bri
