A New Year with Pre-4!

Hello families,

We hope that everyone is continuing to stay safe and healthy. We are so grateful that we have been able to continue care for your families.

Our New Teachers:

We would also like to take some time to welcome our new practicum students to our Pre-4 team. Brittany, Kaylee, Valeria, Lin, and Sam have been a great addition to our room. The last couple weeks of January, the students started planning some activities for the children! Now, starting in February, they will get the opportunity to be the lead teacher in the classroom and implement some group times and small groups. We can’t want to see what they have planned for our room!

What Have We Been Learning?

This month we have been working on a variety of different subjects. The big interest in our room this month was animals, from sea, to land, and prehistoric!

Math:

Measurements:

Since the semester started, the children have been talking about dinosaurs! So, we brought in some dinosaurs into the room to measure the height and length of the dinosaur of their choice.

Our findings:

T-Rex (Logan)14 Cubes Tall
Pachycephalosaurus (Jordan)10 Cubes Tall
Apatasaurus (Logan and Jordan)14 Cubes Tall

Patterns:

We also focused on four different types of patters (AB, ABA, AAB, and ABB). We brought out the beads and each chose a patters to use to make a bracelet. To help the children out, they were encouraged to place their colored beads on the example cards before starting. Once they had their bead on the sheet they would say the pattern out loud as they made their bracelet.

Counting and Number Recognition:

Apples are a favorite in our room so, we wanted to see how many apples were on the apple trees! Each card had three numbers at the bottom so that the children could match the number of apples to the correct printed number.

World Map:

As the children have continued to show interest in animals, we brought in a world map to talk about where animals live around the world. We started having conversations about how the animals in the zoo actually come from different places around the world. Since the children showed so much interest in this we also did a similar activity with dinosaurs, focusing on where their fossils were found and whether they were an omnivore, herbivore, or carnivore.

Parent Communication:

If you have any questions about the classroom or would like to see more of something in the room, please feel free to reach out to Melissa, Ana, or Kristi via email or when you see us at drop off/Pick up! Here is the link to a dinosaur song that the kids have been requesting:
