November 2021 Infant 1 News

Hello Infant-1 Families!

It is time for the Fall semester to wind down. The three interns have been busy wrapping up their final weeks of lead teaching. They have done a wonderful job documenting all of the fun activities they offered during their last 2 weeks of fulltime lead teaching. They planned group times and small group activities. The children painted with a variety of tools, painted on different types of paper, learned new songs, were challenged in their fine and gross motor, were introduced to many new words, and concepts during this past month. They have put so much work into the displays in the hallway and on our classroom door, hopefully you had time to look at them. We will all miss Samantha Adams, Alyssa Villasenor, and Gloria Purnell as the move on to their next chapter. We thank them for all they have shared with us this semester.

During this time of giving, the CDFC is participating in a collection of items to help stock the NIU Huskie Food Pantry. The food pantry is located in room 150 of the Campus Life Building. The Pantry is open to all students who may have a need for food items as well as household items. Each of the classrooms is given a designated item to collect. A cardboard box is located outside each of the classrooms, the Infant room is collecting kitchen spices. For more information on the Food Pantry or to give a monetary donation follow the link to the webpage: Donate – NIU – Huskie Food Pantry.

Part of our daily routine is outdoor time. It has been challenging to get outside with all of the individual eating and sleeping schedules. We do know that it is so important for the children to get those opportunities to play and explore outside. By using the space on the playground or even some open grassy spaces on our campus near the center, it gives the children an opportunity to move their bodies in different ways then in the indoor space.  Being outside in nature is calming for all of us. Breathing in the fresh air and using our senses to explore all the sights, sounds, textures, and smells around us is great for building those brain connections. As the children get older and move into a more consistent routine, outdoor time will continue. We will go outside in the cold and snowy weather, bundled up well.

Have a great December and Happy Holidays!
