Introduction
Greetings families! We are very excited to be experiencing some spring like weather. We are eager to spend more time outside! We have had a great month of March as we were very busy with several activities.
Book Studies
We are beginning to do book studies in our classroom. We began with Dr. Suess at the beginning of March to celebrate his birthday. We have read some of his most popular books like The Cat in the Hat, Go, Dog, Go!, Fox in Socks, All the Things You Can Think, Are You My Mother? and more. We had some good laughs as we read some of these books, many of the characters are playing games and tricks and we also came upon some fun tongue twisters. We even had a fun sock and hat day and wore our favorite socks and hats to school. Our next study will be Audrey and Don Wood. We look forward to reading a variety of their books!
Week of the Young Child
We will have our annual Week of the Young Child celebration from April 4, 2022-April 8, 2022. Week of the Young Child celebrates young children and their families through several activities! We are very excited to make one of our classroom art project, Tie-Dye T-shirts! Thank you for providing t-shirts for this activity! We also look forward to making a picture frame and taking a classroom photo. It will be a great keepsake from our classroom. We are also going to paint wooden maracas and make a canvas flag. We will also plant some flower seeds and watch them grow. Also, if you would like to read a story with us, please let us know what date and time works for you! Book readings will be held virtually unless we can make it work during outside time. We would love to see you! Also, please see the flyer outside our classroom for spirit wear during the week. For Wednesday, our class was assigned to wear the color black! Please send your child to school in this color. We look forward to celebrating this wonderful week with you all!
Science
This month we tried to see what would happen if we put white carnations into colored water. We discovered that the flowers turned the same color of the water they were placed in (Ex. Green water turned carnation green). We also are experimenting with trying to grow beans. We placed these beans in plastic bags in our window to see what would happen. So far, very small changes have happened! We also got to do an activity where the children used colored tissue paper and liquid starch. We discovered that when you paint over the tissue paper it causes the color to run together and create new colors.
Sensory Activities
We also made silly putty with glue, liquid starch, and food coloring. The children had the opportunity to pull, cut, stretch, roll, and pinch the putty. We also made puffy paint with glue, paint, and Mr. Bubbles foam. It gave the children an opportunity to paint with a different texture.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent Teacher Conferences for Diane are on April 20, 2022, from 8-4 and conferences for Kat are on April 21, 2022, from 8-4. Please sign up for a conference if you have not done so already and fill out the questionnaire that we provide to help us steer the direction of the conference. During the conference we will provide you with a variety of handouts to help explain your child’s development! We will be able to meet in person for these if you would like. If it’s not possible, we understand and we can do it virtually or over the phone. Please let us know what works best for you!
Reminders
- If you have any extra grocery bags that you don’t need, please bring them! We use them to send any extra things home with your child.
