Hi Pre 2 Families!
Another month has flown by! We kicked off April with Week of the Young Child. We enjoyed music Monday by doing drum paintings using canvas and popsicle sticks to splatter paint. Tasty Tuesday, we built structures graham crackers and sunflower butter. Work Together Wednesday, the children built wooden structures together which we then painted on Artsy Thursday. For Artsy Thursday, the kids also painted Week of the Young child boards together. Saving the best for last we had Family Friday. Thank you to all the families who came out to join us for bubbles and chalk, even though the weather wasn’t the greatest.
This month we also started our building study. This study allowed the kids the opportunity to expand their knowledge of different buildings and their purposes, building materials and vehicles, different signs, vocabulary, and overall making them aware of their surroundings. Some of our vocabulary words were sturdy, architects, collapse, yurt, construction site, and caution. We read different versions of the Three Little Pigs and discussed what the houses were made of and challenged the kids to think of ways they could make the hay and stick house sturdier, or how the houses were different. We took a walk around campus to the Holmes Student Center and the kids were excited to see the bowling ally and arcade games. We visited the Field House where kids got some free sunglasses. During our walk we talked about what the different buildings were, how they looked, and what materials are used to make them. We are hoping to take a field trip to the Huskie Den to go bowling. If we can go, we would appreciate if any parents would volunteer to be chaperones for an hour or two.
We will be starting a pet study when the kids return Wednesday. The pet study will help kids learn about the different types of pets, caring for them, what they eat, how they communicate, and what climate they live in. Everyday a new friend will have a chance at being the fish feeder for our classroom fish, teaching them the responsibility of caring for an animal. If you have a pet, please feel free to bring in or share a picture with us of your pet so we can talk about them in the classroom.
As we are going into our final weeks, we are going to be talking about kindergarten to help prepare our friends getting ready to start kindergarten in the fall. We have discussed what the classroom may look like, routines, and classroom expectations (i.e., raising their hand). If you have any concerns for your child or simply want to work with them over the summer, please feel free to ask us for kindergarten readiness fact sheets or skill building activities.
Sincerely,
Your Pre 2 Team
