Pre-4 November News

Dear Pre-4 Families,

November has gone by so quickly. We will be finished with the fall semester in no time. As the winter and the colder weather approaches, we want you to be aware of a few things. We will continue to go outside if the real feel temperature is above 15 degrees. We will only be outside for an abbreviated period in those incredibly low temperatures, but we will still go out for gross motor play. Please make sure your child has appropriate chilly weather gear which includes a coat, snow pants, boots, hat, gloves, or mittens. Thank you! When the temperature is too cold to go outside, we have a time designated for Pre-4 to visit the large motor room.

Gross motor skills include all the large movements your child makes with major muscle groups. Running, jumping, climbing, and dancing are examples. Your preschool child engages in these activities on his/her own, but the CDFC values large motor play and encourages activities that develop these skills. With regular practice, your child will master control of the major muscle groups to become a healthy, well-rounded child.

The children have enjoyed the art center in the classroom during the month of November. Many of our friends enjoy creative expression. We experiment with crayons, colored pencils, and markers on a regular basis. We have given the children the opportunity to paint with large watercolor pads and they have also enjoyed finger painting. Please take time to really look at your child’s artwork that comes home. Many parents complain that their children do not tell them about their school day. Therefore, talking about their art creations may provide a segway into learning about their day at school.

Here at the CDFC we focus on process-based artwork and creative expression. Process Art, as the name describes it, is an art experience where the focus is on the process of creating and not the end product. Your child has the freedom to direct the experience, choose the materials, techniques, and medium available. It celebrates art discovery through exploration.

Thank you for attending Parent Teacher Conferences this past month with us. We always enjoy talking with you about your wonderful children. We will be saying goodbye to Bliss Eash on December 9th. We wish her well as she begins her teaching journey at St. Ambrose College in her own preschool classroom. Enjoy your winter break!
