Hello Pre-4 families!!
Welcome to our center for our new families, and welcome back to our established families. Leslie and I are so happy you are all here!
For a first newsletter of the new school year, I want to share 3 things with you all. First, let’s look at our classroom happenings, second, I have some things to share about Pyramid Model, social emotional development, & our family night, and third, I want to share ways you can be involved in pre-4.
Our Classroom Happenings
This past week many of the children in our room have been very excited about and interested in firetrucks. We have a playhouse we have turned into a fire station with props and trucks. This is a small way children can engage in small scale dramatic play. Leslie switched out materials in our dramatic play area so children can pretend to be firefighters at a fire station. They can role play and pretend to rescue people and put out fires.
The children have been consistently engaged with the materials in our block area. There has been a tremendous amount of building and pretending in this area. In these 2 pictures Bennett, Ozan and Emmett build a road and then created a traffic jam, Lisa built a chair for a queen. We had great conversations about what they built, related vocabulary and the number of items they were using.
If you have been reading our weekly reflections and catching our hallway documentation it gives you a great way to learn about pre-4 happenings.
Pyramid Model, Social Emotional Development, & Family Night
Over the past two years we have been implementing Pyramid Model to help support children social & emotional development. They provide a plethora of resources for teachers to use at school and families to use at home. You can check out their link for family resources HERE if you are interested.
A simple tool we have been using is Tucker Turtle. At family night we provided every family with a tucker turtle story and small puppet. We hope you have taken the time to explore the backpack and start using some of the tools with your child. Need more information about Tucker Turtle? Here is a short video you can watch with your child.
Ways to Get Involved in Pre-4
Leslie and I both love when families get involved in our classroom! Here are some ways you can do that…
- Let us know that you’d like to join us for lunch, and we’ll have a plate ready for you to eat with us. We eat at noon!
- Come and play. Have time between classes? Do you have time off sometime? Let us know you want to come and play with us, we’d love to have you join us.
- Have something to share with us? A skill, a trick, a book, a song? Join us any time before 10:45am or after 3:00
We hope you are having a great fall semester! Kendra
