Infant 1 Week 3

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all doing well. As we all know, this social distancing has been extended until the end of April so please keep an eye out for more of these weekly newsletters with fun activities to do at home. We cannot stress enough how much we miss all of you. I hope you are all finding some time to send as a family and enjoy seeing how much your babies are developing.

The first activity I have is a video of myself. At the center, our babies love books that have songs to them. I decided to record myself reading/singing the book Baby Beluga. This book is very popular and the song is extremely catchy. I really hope they enjoy hearing and seeing me read this book to them! I am going to add the lyrics below in case you want to sing along or want to learn the song.

Baby beluga in the deep blue sea

Swim so wild and you swim so free

Heaven above and the sea below

And a little white whale on the go

Baby beluga, baby beluga

Is the water warm

Is your mama home with you, so happy

Way down yonder where the dolphins play

Where you dive and splash all day

Waves roll in and the waves roll out

See the water squirtin’ out of your spout

Baby beluga, oh, baby beluga

Sing your little song

Sing for all your friends, we like to hear you

When it’s dark, you’re home and fed

Curl up, snug in your water bed

Moon is shining and the stars are out

Good night, little whale, good night

Baby beluga, oh, baby beluga

With tomorrow’s sun, another day’s begun

You’ll soon be wakin’

Baby beluga in the deep blue sea

Swim so wild and you swim so free

Heaven above and the sea below

And a little white whale on the go

You’re just a little white whale on the go

Sensory Bottles

The second activity that I would like to include that is fun for both the children and the parents/guardians is making sensory bottles. These can be done with any extra bottles that you have at home from water or any soda bottles. These sensory bottles can be done in 2 different ways, the picture below is just simply using rice, or buttons, or noodles inside of these bottles and when you close them, making sure you are either hot gluing the tops down or using some type of glue to glue it down. These can be used as sensory bottles or as maracas when you are doing some music time at home.

The other type of sensory bottles you can make are with water/baby oil. When you are adding water or baby oil, make sure these bottles are not easy to break if a child is going to mouth or bite on them. For these sensory bottles you will need water, oil and food coloring/paint. Pick 2 colors that you want to incorporate to the bottles and mix water with one of the colors and mix the other with the oil. Next, you pour the water first in the bottle then pour the oil on top of the water. Again, please make sure that you are using some type of glue at the top of the bottle cap to make sure that there is no leaking happening from the bottles.

This activity allows great conversations for you and your child. The conversations you can have are about the different colors, what color it turns when you mix the two, what happens when you shake the bottle.

Please note: If you decide to add items in the bottles such as beads, buttons, or any other small objects, please make sure you are monitoring the use of these bottles. Such items are choking hazards and although they will be in a bottle, it is still important to make sure that the children are being careful with these materials.

As always, we hope you are all staying safe and well. Please feel free to send us any videos or pictures of your children doing any of these activities. We would love to see how our friends are doing since we last seen them.

Have a good week,

Emilly, Nadine, Hailey and Ecila
