Pre-5 February Newsletter

Hello Pre-5 Families & Friends!

Happy New Year and Spring 2020 Semester!

What a busy and exciting start to the year we have had! We are very excited to share that this month Pre-5 has collaborated with the NIU LTLA students to read children’s books and have short discussions about them. The children have enjoyed meeting with the Early Childhood students and reading some of their favorite books including Piggie and Elephant and Click Clack MOO. This allows for a great collaboration opportunity and the children to engage with other adults outside of the classroom. We will continue to go the remainder of the semester, we go on Monday and Wednesday mornings at 9 every other week.

We have begun to keep a calendar hung on the pro-care screen. It has all of the classroom happenings that you need to be aware of, so check it out!

Another exciting opportunity we have had is the collaboration with the drama outreach program. They come once a month to read and add some drama to stories with the children. If you ever want to join us for this experience we’d love to have you! Just let us know.

.

Recently we have been working on a project about wasps and bees. This stems from a donation of a wasps nest from Luca Stutenburg’s family.

The first experience we had with the wasps nest was to use a very special camera that helped us to peek inside the nest and inspect closely. We hypothesized about what we might be seeing as we looked. At first children thought it was a bee hive! We investigated and didn’t find any honey at all. If you want to know more about this exciting project keep you eyes peeled for documentation about the children’s findings coming in the next two weeks!
