The Farm – La Granja

In the past we have done activities in Spanish with colors, bingo, and others and the children have always showed interest in learning new words. In order to expand on this, we introduced a new song that identifies farm animals and their sounds in Spanish. We also brought out a toy farm and some farm animals for them to play with as we sang the song. The children followed along and continued to say some of the animals’ names in Spanish throughout the day. We hope to continue introducing new Spanish words through activities once a week! If you are interested in continuing the learning at home, please let a supervisor know and we will make sure to create a list of the words as we introduce them in the classroom.

Intern Lead Teaching

The interns started taking lead of the classroom on Sept. 21! The children have enjoyed many of the activities they have planned. During this month, we had Amanda and Allison as lead teachers for two weeks! They planned activities about, positive relationships, colors, safety, and rhythm activities! Amanda read an interactive book with the children where the children had to follow step by step instructions so that to colors could mix together to make a new one! Allison had the children take turns as they came up with a beat that the rest of the class then had to repeat. We are so excited to have K’La and Symone start their lead teaching on October 5th!

Science Experiments

The children have continued to show an interest in science experiments. This month Allison used a science experiment to expand the children’s knowledge on volcanoes. She used a water bottle to mix water, baking soda, dish soap, paint, and vinegar to create an “eruption”. Some others words she introduced were magma, molten rock, and layers.

Sensory Bins

As we are no longer able to allow the children to play together with sensory materials, we have given each child a bin to play with some materials on their own. The children have asked to play in these bins throughout the day on multiple occasions. Some of the materials we have put in these bins are water, sand, and pebbles. We have also added different animals to each to talk about the different habits animals can be found in. Fish and sea animals in water, farm animals in pebbles, and insects in the sand.
