Pre-4 October News!

What’s Going on in Pre-4:

Snow in October!

Our first snow fall of the year consisted of making a lot of snow balls, mini snowmen, snow soups, and rosy cheeks!

Lead Teaching:

ThisĀ  month, our practicum student, K’La, started her two weeks of lead teaching! She chose to focus on patterns and rhyming. For example, K’La did a pompom pattern activity where she would make a pattern and our friends would then have to copy it. She brought in their interest for animals with an animal sticker pattern activity!

Towards the end of the month, Allison and Amanda began their second round of Lead Teaching. Allison focused on Science and Gross-motor and Amanda focused on Community helpers and Sharing. For one of Allison’s activities, she had two dice, one with numbers and one with a variety of movements. The children each got a turn rolling the dice. Whatever that dice landed on, the children had to do the movement the certain amount of times. The kids also had a blast with Amanda’s FireĀ  Rescue. First, child got their own spray bottle, where they then had to run around the playground and put out all the fires that they found. They had their own fire station in our play house where they were able to park their fire truck and respond to emergencies!

Working on our Letters!

Pipe Cleaner Letters:

One thing Ana and I really wanted to focus on this month was letter recognition. Some of the activities we did included art, cars, and crafts! For instance, Ana did a small group with the children where they had to bend pipe cleaners to make letters. After the kids made the letters, we mixed them up and the children put the letters back in order to make their name.

Magic Letters:

Something else our class did was Magic Letter water coloring! To do this we used white paper, a white crayon, and water colors. I started by writing different letters around the paper for some and their names for others. The children then grabbed the brush and began to color their paper to reveal the letters on their paper. As the letters appeared, the children said the letter. To extend on that, we would ask the children what sound the letter made and what were some words that started with that letter.

Name Parking Lots:

Another thing the kids have enjoyed playing with is our matchbox cars we have in the classroom. Therefore, I wanted to being in that interest with a name parking lot. First, the children had to find the cars with the letter in their name. They then had to drive their cars to the right parking spot in order to make their name. Afterwards, they picked their favorite colored marker and practiced writing their name.
