Welcome to Toddler 1!

Hello Toddler 1 Families!

Fall semester is upon us and we are so excited to work with you and your child!  We would like to take the time to introduce ourselves and our three practicum students for the semester.  During their semester in our classroom, they will have the opportunity to be lead teachers of our classroom.  They have already begun to get to know your children, learn their interests, and have already formed some close relationships.  We can’t wait to see what ideas they have for our classroom and your children!

Ana Barragan

I graduated from NIU in the fall of 2018 with my Bachelor’s in Family and Child Studies with an emphasis in Child Development. Since then I have stayed at the CDFC as a Child Development Supervisor. I have worked with all age groups from infants to preschool. I am also working towards a Master’s in Speech Language Pathology and hope to one day work in Early Intervention. Outside of work and school, I enjoy spending time with family in the city, watching movies, and attending concerts and sports games. I look forward to the time we will spend working together this semester!

Ecila Scaife

I graduated in 2003 from NIU with a Bachelor’s in Family and Child Studies and a sub emphasis in Leadership and Administration. I’ve been the Master Teacher of the infant and/or toddler room for two years. I enjoy physical activities such as dancing, running, and kayaking.  When I grow up, I want to do adventure based counseling.  I have two kiddos, AJ and Azim (Deuce), and a fur baby Sunni.

Krysten Jones

I am a 2016 graduate of NIU with my Bachelor’s in Family and Child Studies with an emphasis in Child Development.  I completed my practicum at the Child Development Lab in Fall 2015, where I continued working part time and then was hired as a Child Development Supervisor in March 2017.  In my time working at NIU, I have worked with infants through preschool, most of my experience being with infants, toddlers, and two year old’s.  I live in Sycamore with my family and our dog, Rylee.  I enjoy traveling, Disney, country music, spending time with family and friends, and I absolutely love giraffes.  I can’t wait to work with you this year and watch your children grow each and every day!

In the Classroom

In our first couple of weeks in the classroom, we have  jisdljsfhow energetic our class is!  Our group time have consisted of music and movement songs.  We’ve taken daily walks to the Gabel playground and spent a lot of time climbing on the climber, riding in cars, drawing with chalk, pushing lawnmowers, and playing music on the drums on the playground.  We’ve been exploring nature, playing with woodchips (both wet and dry), dry dirt, and even noticed a cicada on the main center playground.  Its loud sound really caught the attention of our children!

Reminders

  • CDFC will be closed Monday, September 6th for Labor Day
  • Please sign your child in and out every day on the clipboard that is on top of our cubbies.
  • Please check your child’s cubby for their ASQ to be completed at home and returned to school.
  • As children in our classroom turn two (2) years of age this semester, they will wear masks in our classroom.  Please have your child wear a mask into the center.  If you are in need of a mask, please ask one of the teachers, and we will get one for you when your child is able to wear one.
  • We are in need of new family pictures!  If you have not brought a new family picture yet this semester, please consider bringing an updated family photo for your child to have at school.
  • CDFC Book Fair is September 20-24th!

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask any of us.

Sincerely,

Krysten, Ana, and Ecila
