July Newsletter Pre-3

Summer Semester

Oh my goodness, it’s crazy to think that the summer semester has basically come to an end! We have had so much fun with our friends this summer by taking advantage of the great weather we have been having. We are hoping to have good weather these last couple weeks to fit in the last few water days! Throughout the month of July we have been working on many things with our friends. We are continuing to work on positive language in our room within friends. Through modeling the peer mediated skills that we worked on during group time, the kids have been practicing: Getting someone’s attention, requesting a toy, sharing, initiating play, and giving compliments. By having the children practice with a teacher and then practice with each other, we are giving them the tools to learn these skills throughout their day. We have see more positive interactions happening throughout the children’s conversations. The second biggest thing that we have been working on in July is rhyming. We have been reading lots of rhyming books such as; Rhyming Dust Bunnies, Rhyme Crime, Henny Penny. We also wanted to introduce a new rhyming song called Rhyme and Exercise by Jack Hartmann. We hope to continue this interest by introducing new games in our room to continue working on rhyming words.

Friendships

We have been working on building friendships since the beginning of the semester! We wanted to acknowledge this again because all the teachers have noticed the strong friendships that have been built in our room within the kids. As you all know we had some new friends from the 2’s room move up to preschool. At first the kids were playing with other kids close in age. As the interest grew and they got to know one another, the children started branching out and forming new friendships.

Fall Semester

With the fall semester approaching, we will be in full prep mode. The kids are excited for old friends to return so they can play together again as well as seeing their teachers that have been on summer break. We are so excited for their return that the kids have requested a countdown poster so that they know when the big day is here. We will also be having some more 2’s move up as they will turn 3 soon and will join our class family. Some of the friends have started to come and play with us for a couple minutes a day.  With fall coming, we are also approaching a very bittersweet time! Two of our friends will be off to kindergarten and we could not be more excited for them. We are going to miss them so much and so will their friends here at the CDFC. We wish them all the best on their next journey!
