Pre 1’s January Newsletter

Welcome Back Pre 1 Families!

It has been a while since I have written a newsletter. The fall semester flew by and before we knew it, we were on winter break. December, we ended our water study and in January we began the bread study. We also said goodbye to Sam recently to the Pre 1 family. She will be missed and hopes to come back and visit and work for the center on a as needed type basis.

The bread study has been such a fun study, the children have enjoyed making and trying new things. We have made cheese quesadillas, toast, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and bread in the bread maker.

We also tasted warmed up baguettes. We hope to make pizzas out of bagels or English muffins, banana bread (gluten free) and muffins. We have read many books, including: The Little Red Hen, Bread Bread Bread,

Nanettes Baguette, Peanut Butter and Jelly, Build a Burrito, and The Gingerbread Man. We have had a few snow days this month as well, that has pushed back some activities and books. We plan to read Jalapeno Bagel, Crazy Pizza Day, and Pete the Cat: The Perfect Pizza Party.

A lot of our small groups consisted of making, trying, and exploring different bakery items and utensils/small appliance items used to help make different items. We played a bakery bingo game and we wrote our name on muffins and had to count how many muffins we needed for our name. We did patterning with unifix cubes and made our own gingerbread people by tracing each other.

*** Please remember that we do go out during the winter months, as long as the real temperature 15degrees or above, we will go outside. Please put your childin a coat, hat, gloves, and snow boots (or bring extra shoes). We are running out of snow gear to lend out. ***

Coming up:

We are hoping to do another family connection snack, so please be on the look out for that.

Hope everyone has had a great January! Jen and Sarah
