Infant 1 October 2021

Hello Infant 1 Families!

Fall is officially upon us! We enjoy the fresh, Autumn breeze and watch the leaves fall from the trees. While outside, we identify the changing colors and explore the textures of leaves, pinecones, grass, and twigs.

Sometimes elements of nature are brought into our classroom. In honor of October, a pumpkin was introduced. First, we felt the orange, bumpy exterior. Children investigated the process of cause and effect; they pushed the pumpkin with their hands and it rolled across the floor. Next, we carved the stem off, revealing the pulp and seeds throughout. We compared and contrasted the textures, shapes, and sizes of the different aspects of the pumpkin.

We have also experienced frequent changes in the weather this month. Thank you for providing coats, hats, and gloves to keep your children warm during outdoor time. We anticipate lower temperatures and snow in the upcoming weeks.

Many children have been introduced to new foods this month. We serve a variety of fruits and vegetables, both pureed and whole foods. Some children have transitioned from sitting in a highchair to the kitchen table. Meal time serves as an opportunity for socialization among their peers. Children demonstrate fine motor skills when they use their fingers and hands to grasp food, utensils, and cups. Self-help skills and autonomy also develop through independent feeding.
