Toddler One Week Six

Hello Toddler 1 Families

Happy May day everyone! I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy. We miss everyone so much! Thanks again for sending your pictures and videos we love them! Please continue to send in your pictures so we can add them to our classroom picture collage. This week I attached a letter from our practicum student Samantha inviting you to her community involvement.

Community Involvement

Hello Toddler Room Families,

I hope that you all are doing well during this stressful time. I hope you all have had an easy adjustment and are able to spend some wonderful family time together. I know I have definitely missed seeing the faces of all the children every day and I thank you for sharing your children with me. Since we are not able to do our traditional community involvement activity, I have found a great alternative for you family to try out.

The children have shown a large interest in animals. We would often do “Going on a Lion Hunt”, “Going on a Bear Hunt”, “Walking in the Jungle”, and “Animal Freeze Dance.” Along with the songs, some of the children have actually gone over to the animals in the science area and picked up the animals associated with the dance. Since we are unable to go to a zoo or bring a zoologist to us, I invite you to watch some videos with your children. Brookfield Zoo has been releasing video segments called “Bringing the Zoo to You. Each video introduces different animals and the animal care staff will talk about the animals and answer questions that are asking through their live stream. I have specifically looked at the segments on giraffes, grizzly bears, red pandas/reindeer, and penguins, but there are many other videos you can choose from. Please sit down and watch these videos as a family. There is a ton of wonderful information in them. This would be a wonderful way to show the children characteristics of the animals and learn what happens at the zoo. This can also help the children notice the differences between animals.

I hope you all get the time to watch these videos and enjoy them.

Hopefully I will get to see you all again in the Fall when I return to the CDFC as a graduate student.

Best Wishes,

Samantha Niklas-Robey
